Job Description

Performs behavioral health assessment, triage and referral services in the Emergency Departments and medical floors throughout Shore Regional health. Behavioral health includes psychiatric and substance abuse problems, victims of domestic violence or physical assault.  Provides supportive care to families of patients in crisis or at the time of death.  Serves as part of the psychiatric resource team for patients with behavioral health problems on inpatient units.

  • Assessment, evaluation and triage of patients with behavioral health care needs presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Serves as a member of a psychiatric resource team providing assessments, crisis intervention, debriefings, grief counseling, and consultation.
  •  Provides referral services throughout designated hospital units.
  • Serves as a nursing consultant for patients on the medical detoxification critical pathway on designated hospital units.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and fundamental skills necessary to organize, prioritize and delivery age specific care in a safe and appropriate environment.
  • Provides supportive care to families of patients in crisis or at time of death as needed throughout designated hospital units.
  • Is self-directed, demonstrating initiative and follow-through on projects.
  • Seeks and supports opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Offers support and feedback to peers and staff. Applies principles of caring and healing in interactions with patients and families and with colleagues.
  • Serves as coach and mentor for less experienced colleagues.
  • Offers consistent and visible support to the Emergency Department and inpatient units as well as to other members of the BHRT team.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other behavioral network staff to resolve problems and promote harmonious relationships throughout Shore Regional Health.
  • Communicates in an effective and professional manner, demonstrating    respect for patients, families/significant other and other health team members.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in both the medical record and in the Request Log.
  • Performs only tasks/assessments that are within the scope of practice for the individual’s licensure. Collaborates with the Psychiatrist/NP for all other assignments. 
  • Responds to Shore Regional Health codes, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for honest behavior in all matters.  To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. 
  • Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Nurse Behavioral Health or RN that meets licensing requirements to practice registered nursing in the State of Maryland with 3 years of direct Behavioral Health patient care.  RN must have Bachelor’s degree, Master degree preferred.
